Tips For Buying Sand Wedges

By GolFrenzy

Golf Ball In Sand TrapWhen you are into golf, whether a rookie or a professional, it is important to have the right clubs for the job. A sand wedge is one of the most important clubs that you can have in your bag as it comes in handy quite often.

The key to actually benefiting from having it in your bag is by ensuring that you purchase one that is right for you. How do you know which one to choose given the limitless amount of options available on the market? In this article, we will be going over some of the top tips for buying sand wedges.

Top Tips For Buying Sand Wedges:

1. Loft.

When it comes to buying the right wedge, you want to make sure that you have the one that is going to provide you with the right kind of loft. The loft of the club is essentially measured in degrees and it is ultimately the angle of the face of the club. You will want to choose the sand wedge that has the lofts that are going to be able to effectively help you hit closer to the pin from your approach shots. The best way to find this information out is by averaging out your approach yardages and seeing which loft angle is going to help you the most.

2. Bounce.

It is also important to look at the bounce of the club. This is the angle at which the sole goes to the ground. Wedges that have a higher bounce angle end up performing much better out of the higher grass and/or sand that is more fluffy. A lower bounce wedge is going to end up performing much better on the courses that have very short grass and thinner sand in the bunkers. You will want to pair the bounce of your ideal club with the various course conditions that you encounter the most. While it will be impossible to pair it with every course you play at, there is likely a course that you play at often enough to make a difference.

3. Finish.

Sand wedges ultimately come in various finishes. From polished chrome, to black gunmetal, to satin, you should be able to find just about anything in the marketplace. With that being said, each material offers its own unique advantages and disadvantages. Each finish is going to end up showing wear over time and you are ultimately going to want to choose the one that is going to work best with your vision. The only finish that is going to offer any kind of benefit outside of cosmetics is a raw finish which has the ability to rust over a period of time and with it might come additional spin on the ball.

In the end, it really is going to depend on your preferences and your overall comfort level. By focusing on finding the wedge that is right for you, you should be able to better your all around golf game.
